Emmanuel Christian College from Tasmania , Australia, helping build the new septic tank and soak pitt!

Help from Tasmania!

This week we hosted a Christian College from Tasmania! Last year they put up the swing set behind the motels, and this year they helped dig the septic tank and soak pit for the new building!
We are very thankful to teams like this that acknowledge the Ministry of the Christian Camp. Paul was happy that they were able to dig, concrete, and complete the new tank and soak pit in two days. That will save Him and the boys here having to do all the work!

At present we are still waiting for funds to come in (and they are coming in thanks to overseas mission groups who are paying in advance for their time with us!!) to buy the roof and trusses. Paul is unable to go too much further without some help, so we are also in need of a plumber or carpenter or at least someone who knows what they are doing:) to put on the roof!

Meanwhile, the plumbing, electrical, and painting are all well underway.
Recently we had a donation from NZ of all of the windows. They arrived in a crate, that Paul had to organise customs etc for. This was all done.... over a period of 4 days going in and out of Suva, but was all finalised with the camp only paying around $600 to clear all the items! What a provision! Again, we thank Brian Hall of Gisbourne NZ for the donation of his second hand windows and also two ovens for the Camp, as well as other bits and pieces for the plumbing etc.

I am attaching a couple of photos of the work done by Emmanuel college this week.
We continue to stand in awe of the Lord and HIS provision for the Camp.

Please remember to pray for the Ministry and opportunities the camp has into the lives of the many people that pass through our gates.

May at the Christian Camp!

Greetings from Deuba!!

This month started out busy with the first term school holidays.
We were able to host a number of groups which was great for the staff and Management to keep us busy as well as providing much needed income to continue with B Block.

Staff
We continue to be blessed with great staff, and a great team spirit here at camp! Felicity has joined our team and is making a valuable contribution to our Kids Klub each week.
Olivia continue to learn the ropes of the office.

With Felicity here, she has also been helping school the Richards' children which has allowed Jo to spend a lot more time in the office with Olly. This is valuable time needed to learn the many different office responsibilities needed to keep the office running efficiently. We are so thankful for olly and the contribution she is making to the Lords work here at camp.

Siga continues to run our Team Building courses every now and then. This weekend we will host the Churchward Chapel Sunday School leaders, who will be running through the games for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. This is the 2nd year running that we have been asked to run these games for this team. Last year and this year again, we have been asked to run their Sunday School games afternoon as well. We were able to go to the Chapel in Flagstaff with a team and run their Sunday school games afternoon. It was a wonderful time of fellowship with the Rotuman group, and we are thankful for their contribution to camp.

Iliesa continues to be Paul's right hand man spending most of the day helping out with B block. He is a great help in Kids Klub as well.
The team play an important part in welcoming and hosting our overseas mission teams.

We work alternate weekends off, on, and the boys do a great job of hosting the incoming local groups that spend the weekend with us. It is a system that works well for all of us, and allows them and the Richards some time off. (Well, as much as we can have off living on site:)

We were blessed to have Waihi Baptist church with us at the end of last month, who put a lot of hard labour and work into B Block.

Paul and the boys continue to work on B Block. At this stage, we are short of funds to put the roof on. Camp really needs another $30,000 to complete the roofing and trusses etc. We are trusting the Lord, as HE has already provided to date everything needed. Our aim was to have the building close to completion by late July, but we don't see this happening due to the funds situation. Our hope would be that the building is finished by the time Paul and Jo leave at the end of this year.

Kids Klub
We continue to have around 60 kids attending our weekly Kids Klub. The Waihi team ran a week long holiday club while they were here too. It is wonderful to have such an impact into the lives of these children. This term will be spend teaching them the Ten commandments and the importance of Gods Word and Commands.

We have a busy couple of months ahead, hosting 5 overseas mission teams throughout June/July. We host, cater, and organise these team visits, as well as providing our staff as 'Guides' when the teams travel to the Local schools or into Suva. Our first team arrives next week, from Tasmania. They will be spending a week here with us a camp, where Paul will lead them in a work project at one of the Local schools for two days ( Deuba Village). Last year they put in water tanks to improve the water situation. Covered Paths were built to the water tanks and Drinking taps installed. This year they will put in a set of swings similar to ours at the back of the Motel area here. They will then get involved in working around the camp helping with the painting of B Block.

These teams are vital to the centre as they provide valuable income through the payment of accommodation and food. Most average around 20 pax, and stay mostly in our KK units.

We continued to stand in awe of all that the Lord has provided for the centre. We serve an awesome God who when He has the hands to work, will provided all that is needed. We are thankful for His continued provision for our family as well as our full time staff Members.

Please remember to keep them in your hearts and prayers...

Esala A new Christian from our local area. Attends our Home fellowship here at camp

Every Wednesday Afternoon is Bible study, with a Sunday fellowship held at camp in the Richards' home. Staff Devotion happens every morning at 8:00am to include not only our full time workers but 5 of our local staff members. We also have Monday Morning Tea Devotion, where we all have morning Tea together. Each of our full time workers are rostered on to take Devotion each morning and Monday Morning tea.

We trust his has filled you in a little more on what is happening at camp, and gives you an idea of our daily happenings.

Blessings,
Paul and Jo Richards

Camp Update April 2009

Greetings from Deuba!

The last two months at camp have been a little quite, due to the impact of many things happening here in Fiji and Abroad. The year did not start out well for us with quite a few cancelled bookings due to the flooding, which in turn, led to quite a decrease in income.

But as always, the Lord is ever faithful, and we have seen his amazing provision through the new B Block, which now has the second story block work finished. It is in the process of being prepared to put on the roof etc. We have a team in From Waihi NZ now, helping install the doors on the lower level and also starting the painting.

We want to thank Raiwai Gospel for sending out a group of men to help with the filling of the blocks. Also Vinaka vakalevu to Valelevu Gospel who sent out a team on Easter Saturday! It is such an encouragement to our team on site to see the Gospel churches getting involved and excited about this project!

From the 1st of March till the 13th April, we hosted 5 Gospel Groups.. Raiwai Gospel, Valelevu Gospel, Samabula Gospel, Gospel High School Prefects, Gospel Primary Girls camp.

We head into May with more occupancy than the first quarter of the year. We would value your prayers for the campsite and its staff.

'New B Block'

All has been going according to plan, but at this stage, due to lack of Finances we are unable to keep the momentum going. We are seeking options at this stage as we do have others willing to come and help.
We will, this week, receive a shipment of windows and other small items for the building that have been donated from a man in New Zealand. We were able to get the duties wavered on some of the container, so that has been a real provision too.

We were hoping to have the building completed by July, but this will now take a little longer. At this stage the camp itself has spent over $80,000 on the building. These funds have ALL been provided through the camp funds!! We continue to wait on the Lord for HIS provision, and also guidance to know what the next best step is.

Managers Leaving

As you all know we are planning on returning to Australia at the end of this year. Altogether we have served at the Christian Camp since 1997, and we are overwhelmed by all the Lord has achieved. We are merely his hands... He has given the ability as well as the strength. There have been so many 'Moses' moments for us, when HE provides the skill, when we are totally unskilled!!

We are in the process of seeking another couple to work alongside us at camp for the year, and then to take on the job after we return to Australia.

We are advertising a 20% discount special on our Motels and KK to the local churches for the month of May. This is only a weekday special is does not apply to the Gospel churches as they already get the 20% on normal bookings. We are doing this to generate some funds to continue with B BLock. We need to fill our motels and Kk's a bit more through the month of May. June , July and August are fairly booked, but May is a quiet month. This does not include the campsite, only the KK and Motels.

Kids Klub

Our kids Klub continues to go well, averaging around 50 to 60 kids a week from Lepanoni. We enjoy a great hour with the kids aged from 3 through to 13. We have stories, games,Memory verses, quizzes and lots more fun together. Last year we saw around 80% of these kids make commitments to follow Jesus!
We trust that as we follow them up this year, that many will continue on for the Lord.

Staff

This year, we have three new staff members...

Olivia.... joins us from Valelevu Assembly. Olly has taken on the task of helping Jo-Anne out in the office, with the hope that once the Richards leave, she will have full knowledge of the office and booking procedures etc.

Esala... is a local young man, who helped Paul on B block around Christmas time. HE is only a new Christian and eager to learn more and serve God. He has only been on the main Island a year. Esala is a hard worker and has great people skills. Paul saw these traits, and was keen to continue to keep Esala on at camp in a full time Capacity. His main job is to be Paul's offsider helping out in practical ways around camp.

Felicity... joins our team this year, fully commended from her Home fellowship.. Village Avenue Community church in Brisbane. Felicity will be with us just for a year. Her main role is to work alongside Jo-Anne in Kids Klub planning and prep, spending time with Olly, Iliesa and Siga training them in the planning and preparation side of this Ministry.

So, at present the camp has three overseas full time workers that are fully supported financially from Australia, 5 paid local staff , and 5 full time workers that are paid a weekly sum as well as living on site here at the Centre.

We trust this information will help you be better equipped to pray for this Ministry and all of its needs. Many people have come and gone through our gates... our one hope would be that each of them leave, new people, refreshed, invigorated and revived for Christ and His work.

We serve HIM because we love HIM.
